The woman behind it all 

As a single mom in the 80’s, I dreamed of being stay at home mom making a liveable income to support us both. I saw an opportunity to use my creative talents in a home-based business as a dressmaker and tailor and enrolled in a certification day program at NAIT. Graduating in May 1987, I was certified as a tailoring and dressmaking technician. A few years into my business I was asked to make a swimsuit for a client. From this, I soon discovered a niche in the market: creating custom swimsuits for those who were unable to find the fit and function they required from swimsuit sold in standard retail sizing. I learned that the problem with swimwear, and the rest of the garment industry, is that people come in many shapes, sizes, and proportions and that no two fit and design needs are the same. Swim or shapewear garments have a job on top of an aesthetic purpose, they are required to shape and support. The skill required to do this kind of work in a custom process was far too specialized for me to hire and train. There had to be a better way! So, on evenings and weekends, I created and patented the scalable, innovative Underpinnings Fitting System which uses engineering principles to manually create garments that support and shape ANY BODY in one fitting.
